  • Shoe tip! Never wear your dance shoes outside, it will ruin them!

Pre-Planning

  • Recital isn’t a one day activity. Gather all costumes, accessories, shoes, and makeup several days in advanced so you’ll know if something is missing or isn’t right.
  • Make a checklist of your child’s routines, listing their costume, tights, shoes, and any accessories, and refer to it to make sure you have all your supplies before going to the venue.

Costume Undergarment

  • All dancers should purchase a nude bodysuit that they will wear under their costume. Dancers should not wear underwear as it does not look professional.
  • Wearing a nude bodysuit comes in handy for: quick changes, itchiness, and costume malfunctions while dancing.

Costume Care

  • To ensure that there are no costume problems, students should not wear their costumes, accessories, or tights prior to recital photos, dress rehearsal, or the recital.
  • Hats should be stored in a hatbox or similar container to prevent damage.
  • Press all costumes prior to the dress rehearsal and the performance.
  • Please do not wash costumes in your washing machine; dry clean them only (after the recital).
  • To release wrinkles in your ballet tutus, hang them upside down on a hanger in the bathroom and immerse them with steam from the shower.
  • Fringe skirts come packaged with string wrapped around each piece of fringe. Please carefully pull this string off for desired fringe skirt movement.
