It may be hard to believe, but recital preparation begins long before our dancers step onto the stage in June.
While recital may still feel far away, there are many exciting pieces that come together throughout the dance season and costume measurement week is one of the first!
Costume Measurement Week is October 10–15 While the sparkle, color, and excitement of a new costume are certainly fun, the costume represents something much bigger: all the growth that happens between the first class of the season and the final bow.
The Magic of Performing
Recital is so much more than learning a dance and performing it for an audience. It gives children an opportunity to develop skills that extend far beyond the dance studio.
Through the recital process, dancers learn:
Confidence: Stepping onto a stage in front of an audience takes courage and helps children develop healthy self-esteem.
Perseverance: Choreography takes practice. Dancers learn to keep working through challenges until they accomplish something they once found difficult.
Adaptability: Things don’t always go exactly as planned. Performing teaches children to think on their feet and handle unexpected situations.
Collaboration: Dancers learn to work together, listen to one another, and contribute to something bigger than themselves.
Pride: There is something incredibly special about the feeling that comes after working hard and accomplishing a goal.
And perhaps most importantly, recital gives children the chance to say, “I did it!”
Why Costumes Are Part of the Experience
For a dancer, putting on that costume for the first time can make everything they’ve been working toward suddenly come to life.
The classroom becomes a stage.
The choreography becomes a performance.
And all those weeks of practice become something they can proudly share with their family.
Costume investments will be processed on October 23.
We know there is a lot that goes into preparing for recital, and we want families to remember that the costume is not simply something your dancer wears. It’s part of an experience they will work toward, grow through, and remember.
Right now, recital may feel months away, but these are the moments that begin the journey.
So when your dancer gets measured in October, let them be excited. Let them imagine the lights, the music, the applause, and that moment when they finally step onto the stage.
Because when recital day arrives, you’ll see more than a dancer in a beautiful costume.
You’ll see how much they’ve grown. 💗
